| Strong lobby in PDP for continuing alliance with BJP | | | ET Report
JAMMU, Jan 12: The decks seem to have been cleared for installation of PDP-BJP Government with PDP announcing to start the dialogue process in this regard with BJP from tomorrow.
The sudden change in PDP's changing decision has been the hard persuasion made by Congress to PDP leadership to join the Congress camp and have a new alignment of secular forces in the State. However this has not found favour with National Conference which was an ally of Congress in former coalition in the State for six years. According to NC sources the Party leadership has made it clear to both PDP as well as NC that it will not like to be part of any such arrangement in the State which will not be everlasting and in which the role of NC will be relegated down.
Sources said NC working president and former Chief Minister has made his feelings open regarding extension of NC's support to PDP dismissing all the speculations that NC will extend unconditional
support to PDP in formation of Government from outside. This statement has also prompted various PDP leaders to impress upon party chief Mehbooba Mufti to start dialogue process with its ally BJP on the same lines and conditions which were fixed by former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
Mehbooba according to sources was also told by this group of party which is strong votary of continuing alliance with BJP that Saffron Party can be a much trusted ally to it than any other party which betrayed PDP and its leadership in past also and did not favour Sayeed during eighties when he tried to bring Congress a viable alternative to NC in the State. Instead of supporting Sayeed the Congress leadership preferred to join hands with NC in 1987 that led to present turmoil in the State.
Sources said moreover any alliance between Congress and PDP which also falls short of the majority will be dependent on support of some independents like Engineer Rashid and others. And this Government has to be at the mercy of the independents who can make any bargaining at any time making the functioning of the Government very difficult.
Joining coalition with Congress with NC support can't also be viable as PDP and NC are traditional political rivals and their joining hands is never possible and such an arrangement can't work also, sources said, adding in comparison to that the BJP has behaved as a trusted ally with PDP in last 10 months and Centre fully cooperated with the State by providing every sort of assistance and help to it in rebuilding the infrastructure by announcing a massive package of Rs 80,000 crore and keeping the interests of people of all three regions in view.
Sources said this group of PDP leaders who include some former Ministers were of the opinion that instead of doing any delay Mehbooba should act and take the mission of her father forward by devoting her as well as Party's time in the development of the State, correct the wrongs done by previous Governments and fulfill the aspirations of the people of all three regions of the State. |
