JU fails to pay homage to its Pro-Chancellor | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 12: University of Jammu remained unrepresented at the State funeral of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that took place at his native village on the 7th of January. Besides being a brazen act of ungratefulness to its Pro-Chancellor, this was a complete departure from the protocol as the Vice Chancellors of the State's universities figure in the list of dignitaries who laid wreath on the mortal remains of the departed leader, who was the sitting Chief Minister of the State. Sources in the university told ET that the news of CM's demise reached Jammu within minutes after he expired at the AIIMS New Delhi and while his body was being flown to Bijbehara, the General Administration Department had issued the notification that the departed leader would be accorded a State funeral, but the Vice Chancellor Prof. R D Sharma did not care to travel to Bijbehara where it was obligatory for him to be present as per the protocol of a State funeral. Sources also told that a notice of VC's absence at the funeral has been noticed at the concerned quarters with lot of annoyance. A student leader in the JU told ET that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had expressed his displeasure over the working of the present Vice Chancellor when the former visited JU a few months ago, in the presence of university fraternity, which the VC had taken with a pinch of salt. |
