Jammu, Jan 12: The state vigilance commission (SVC) has directed IGP crime to initiate a preliminary inquiry against then SHO of Police Station, D H Pora, Kulgam, and his subordinates for the alleged misuse of official position by them. The SVC, while proceeding on the complaint of Shakeel Ahmad Malik against Wasim Mohammad, then SHO of D H Pora Police Station and others, alleging therein the abuse of authority by way of assault, wrongful restraint, corrupt practices and their attempt to involve him in a fake currency case, summoned the SHO. After considering the complaint, statement of defence by SHO and his subordinates, evidence adduced by the complainant, record called from the D H Pora police station and other relevant evidence, it came to fore that after the complainant refused to pay Rs 30,000 as bribe to the investigating officer of the police station, a false complaint regarding recovery of fake currency notes from him was lodged against him before the executive magistrate by the SHO and his subordinates. It got prima-facie established that the respondents made every attempt to wrongly involve the complainant in a fake currency case, following his refusal to pay the bribe in a case of molestation lodged by his wife. During inquiry, SVC found that fake currency notes were never recovered from the complainant. However, in the 'case dairy file', fake currency notes were shown recovered from the complainant to falsely implicate him in the case for ulterior motives and in abuse of power, SVC observed. Taking a serious note of such an illegal action and misuse of authority by the SHO and his subordinates while performing their official duties, SVC directed IGP crime to initiate a preliminary inquiry against the accused police officials, followed by a time bound legal action against them.
