Agriculture University failed to support farmers: NCP

Jammu, Jan 16: Former minister Thakur Randhir Singh , NCP Chief J&K state regretted that SKUAST-Jammu and state agriculture department have miserably failed to organize local farmers to impart training in the field of farmers rather spend time in their laboratories and spend huge amounts only in research.
A Progressive farmer Ranjit Singh Chib President Vegetable Growers Association of J&K and Member J&K Kissan Board along with Kunwar Mohinder Singh and other farmers of the Marh block and adjoining areas called on Former minister Thakur Randhir Singh , NCP Chief J&K state presented him organic Brocilli grown by him which is an early hybrid harvested in about 90 days with excellent uniformity with high yield, heat tolerance , wide adaptability, bacterial disease tolerant and has got a medicinal value and brief him about the various problems faced by the farmers of the Jammu division regarding the marketing of vegetables in the state.
Chib presented the organic Brocilli( green magic). He said there is no awareness of consumption of this herbal vegetable which act against the cancer and stomach diseases. He imported the seeds of brocilli from Sakata seed Corp. Japan and grown in the area of about 1 Kanal in his village Akalpur Tehsil and District , Jammu . he also said the govt must provide the market so that the farmers get the remunerative prices of their vegetable during the bumper production.
Thakur Randhir singh said in a statement and appreciated the efforts of Chib who has produced Brocilli hybrid (Green magic) he said Chib should be awarded National award for his great achievements in the field of agriculture. He said the farmer is the best researcher and are producing the rare vegetables in Jammu in off time. He condemned the activities of SKUAST-Jammu which has totally failed in producing the best seeds of various crops in Jammu division and also in Veterinary field since its inception, most of the Vice Chancellors of SKUAST-Jammu has come from other fields like Veterinary and have not contributed anything as for the development of paddy , wheat , vegetable, fruits , Sugarcane, oilseeds.
