Mattoo, Parra among political appointees being disengaged | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 16: The State Government has decided to "disengage" the political appointments made in the office by the former Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who passed away on January 7. Highly placed sources said the big names in the list which will be disengaged include Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to CM, Waheed Parra, Political Analyst to CM and Tahir Sayed Media Analyst in the CM's Secretariat. Official sources said such appointments are "co-terminus by default" meaning that they cease to exist when the Chief Minister's tenure is over. They said such appointees would be informed about their disengagement in the coming days. Sources said the General Administration Department is finalizing the modalities about the issue while Governor NN Vohra would take the final call. "The main issue is about their salaries. It's mostly likely that they will be paid salary only up to January 7 when the CM passed away or at the most up to January 9 when the Governor's rule was imposed," the sources said. Sources said the decision to formally inform the political appointees about their "disengagement" was being taken in the wake of massive public outcry over social media including Facebook and Twitter that why the Government has been silent over the fate of such appointments when the State is already under Governor's rule. Noted academician and former Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof Amitabh Mattoo was appointed as Advisor to the Chief Minister with the status of a Cabinet Minister on August 21, 2015. Prof Mattoo had emerged as Mufti's right hand in decision-making as he would be seen accompanying the Chief Minister at all crucial meetings. Prior to this, on June 26, Peoples Democratic Party's youth face, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, was appointed as Political Analyst in Chief Minister's office. Waheed, who played a major role in mobilizing support for PDP in the Parliament and Assembly elections of 2014, was appointed as the Political Analyst-the post equivalent to that of a Political Advisor-to "hammer out solution to grievances and public complaints received in the Jammu and Kashmir Government Grievance cell." Parra was also strategically working in coordination with the State Government. According to the orders issued by the former CM's office, the Project Management Unit in the JK Government Grievance Cell maintained a close link with the Political Analyst for the "purpose of analysis of the contents and trends of public grievances in general for suggesting formulation of broader non-administrative responses." Besides these two, on December 31, 2015, the then PDP led Government appointed ruling PDP youth leader, Tahir Sayeed, as "Media Analyst" in Chief Minister's office. Apart from monitoring media trends, Tahir was entrusted the job to improve "the communication between the people and Government and highlight the Government's developmental agenda in tune with the pulse on ground." A senior officer said the disengagement would not be final. "This can be treated as temporary because once the new Government takes oath, which is mostly likely in the coming days they can be reengaged," the official pleading anonymity told Early Times. |
