Will separatists, Kashmiri MLAs be allowed to attend anti-India meet in Pak? | Round Table Conference | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 16: The so-called Azad Kashmir Government is holding a two-day round table conference on J&K at Islamabad. It will be held on January 20 and 21. Kashmiri separatists and two Valley-based legislators have been invited to the round table conference. The invitation has been extended by none other than president of Pakistan-occupied- Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Muhammed Yaqoob Khan. The fact that the PoJK Government has selected Islamabad as the venue of the anti-India event speaks for itself. It shows that Islamabad and Islamabad-controlled Muzaffarabad are working in unison or it shows that it would be basically an Islamabad-organized event. Those who have been invited include all constituents of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, their supporters in civil society groups and MLAs Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami (CPI-M) and Engineer Rashid (an independent MLA). Separatist leaders who have been invited include the Tehrik-e-Hurriyat chairman, Syed Ali Geelani; the All-Party Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq; the Dukhtaran-e-Milat chief, Asiya Andrabi; and other Kashmiri separatists like Shabir Ahmad Shah, Aga Syed Hasan and Mohammad Yousuf Naqash. Interestingly, the self-styled chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammed Yasin Malik has yet to get an invitation. He himself has disclosed it. Rashid has declared that he will go to Islamabad to attend the scheduled round table conference. It was his spokesperson who disclosed that Rashid, who also heads the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), would leave for Pakistan on Saturday. "Kashmiris being the principal party to the dispute and victims of the conflict should not waste any opportunity to put forward their viewpoint before India, Pakistan or the world community," he reportedly said, adding that "Rashid will meet various political groups and different sections of the society (in Islamabad) over various aspects of the 68-year-old Kashmir problem". As for Tarigami, he has reportedly said that "he was yet to decide about his participation". The question to be asked is: Will the Narendra Modi Government allow the Kashmiri separatists and Kashmir-based legislators to crossover to Islamabad to take part in the anti-India event? It should not allow them to go to Islamabad. If it allows them, it would mean that it has diluted its stand on Jammu and Kashmir. It would also suggest that the Modi Government and the Nawaz Sharif Government are working in tandem. |
