PDP core group meeting today | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 16: In a first step towards receiving the feedback within the party over the continuation of alliance with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) top notch leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would meet on Sunday to chalk out future course of action. It has been learnt from sources that the core group of the party would meet at Fairview on Gupkar Road, the official residence of party President Mehbooba Mufti at 2 PM. This would be the first formal meeting of the party leaders after the demise of former Chief Minister and the party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. After Mufti passed away in the morning of January 7 at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at New Delhi the State Government ceased to exist. As the PDP along with its coalition partner BJP did not stake claim for the formation of next Government the Jammu & Kashmir State was put under Governor's Rule on January 8. "The core group of PDP would meet at the residence of party President and chalk out future course of action. It will not be legislature party meeting even though some of the legislators are going to take part in it. Besides the core group members the meeting would be attended by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members of the party," said sources. Sources said that Sunday's meeting would be followed by the legislature party meeting likely to be held any time in the next week. The PDP President would like to receive the feedback from party members before taking any decision vis-a-vis Government formation in the State with BJP. "In the core group meeting Mehbooba would seek views of the members in case the party aligns with BJP for forming the next Government in the State. These views would be then shared with the legislators of the party in the legislature party meeting scheduled to be held next week. As such the picture about the Government formation in the State would become clear during the next week," said sources. It would be in place to mention here that party's member from Srinagar-Budgam-Ganderbal Lok Sabha, Tariq Hameed Qarra has already voiced his concern over PDP's coalition with BJP. He has asked the party President to form the next Government with the 'secular' forces and not with BJP. During Mufti's stint as Chief Minister Qarra had asked him to sever ties with BJP saying that this has 'dented' the image of PDP across the State. Baramulla-Kupwara-Bandipora Lok Sabha member of PDP, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh has of late changed his stance towards the proposed coalition with BJP. Beigh who had also opposed the move to join hands with BJP in the past, has of late said that he would abide by the decision taken by the party President over the Government formation or otherwise. Sources said that PDP might demand with BJP that the post of Deputy Chief Minister is abolished and that there would be no such position in the new Government. It is also likely that the party would like some assurance from the Central Government regarding some issues that have been incorporated in the Agenda of Alliance stitched between PDP and BJP in February 2015 before Mufti became the CM of Jammu & Kashmir on March 1, 2015. |
