Formation of new Govt in J&K: Hectic backdoor political activity underway | | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: With the Government formation delayed in Jammu and Kashmir, The rumour mill has started churning overtime and political aspirations of many of those who were not part of the Council of Ministers led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed have also started soaring. Sources privy to closed door meetings going on within PDP and BJP divulge that while the name of Mehbooba Mufti as the next Chief Minister of the State has been finalized and agreed upon, her Cabinet may not seem similar to that of her father. "There may be some new faces as it is the prerogative of the Chief Minister and she has her own confidants within the party" said a PDP MLC adding that one or two new faces may be inducted and similar number may have to make way for the new comers. "While Mufti Sayeed yearned to give responsive governance, there have been certain departments which did not function in accordance with his wishes and vision and these departments may be entrusted to new people" said the legislators reiterating that PDP had many promising and able legislators and they may get a nod in the new Council of Ministers. Recall of the Muzaffar Hussain Beig in the State politics is also being considered imminent as despite his stand against the PDP's decision to enter into coalition with BJP to form Government in J&K initially, Mehbooba might need his guidance and experience in running the Government in the absence of his father and mentor, Mufti Sayeed. Besides Mehbooba, Beig is also currently party's Lok Sabha MP. Similarly, once NC stalwart and former Minister Mehboob Beig is also fancying his chances in Mehbooba's Cabinet. Sources also narrate that while there may be certain changes in PDP's quota in the Council of Ministers, BJP which had been pitching for a 50-50 formula in the new Government under Mehbooba may also want to get in a couple of new faces from its side. However, while intense deliberations are on in the PDP camp with Mehbooba, Naeem Akhtar, Mehboob Beigh and Altaf Bukhari trying to work out a consensual formula, aspirants within the BJP are knocking at the doors of Ram Madhav and party high command in New Delhi. Meanwhile, despite reiterating their stand to put in place a coalition Government soon, both PDP and BJP are keeping their cards close to their chests. |
