Injured DySP's guard decamps with 4 AK-47 rifles | | | Saahil Suhail

Pulwama, Jan 16: Giving a severe shock to the authorities, a police constable aided by two friends decamped with four rifles and joined a militant group. According to police sources, a police constable who was posted as a guard of a top police officer decamped with four rifles. His two childhood friends were found missing from their native village. The trio is believed to have joined a militant group. Police sources said that constable Shakoor Ahmad, 23, who decamped with four AK-47 rifles was posted at Bijbehara with the deputy superintendent of police, Irshad Ahmad who was injured in an attack by militants recently in Bijbehara of Anantnag District. Police sources said that Shakoor along with his two childhood friends Fayaz Ahmad Dar and Aqib Ahmad Dar of Kumdalan village of Shopian both missing since past two days in a pre-planned manner managed to run away with four AK-47 rifles and later joined a militant group. One police official investigating the case told Early Times that he suspected that the trio may have joined Hizbul-Mujahideen militant group as the area they belong is known for militancy related activities of Hizbul-Mujahideen. Station House officer(SHO), Feroz Ahmad said that a missing report of Fayaz Ahmad Dar and Aqib Ahmad Dar of Kumdalan village of Shopian was registered today by family members of duo and Police is further investigating the matter. Sources said that Shakoor, Fayaz and Aaqib living in one village are Childhood friends and trio had bent of mind towards militancy since childhood and were always enthusiastic to find an opportunity to join any militant group. This is the first incident of 2016 in which a policeman decamped with four rifles to join militancy. In one similar incident last year a policeman deputed as the guard of a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) minister at Srinagar run away with his rifle and joined the militant group. Weapon snatching incidents popularly continues to surface from last four years from Kachdora and Trapadpora of Shopian,Pakherpora, Tral ,main town Pulwama and from Kulgam and Anantnag of South Kashmir. According to sources 2016 is consecutive third year of surge in militancy in south Kashmir despite the tremendous efforts of security forces over the years in eliminating local and Pakistan based militants of different militant groups. Sources said that surge in militancy began since early 2014 and in past two years around 150 local youth of South Kashmir's Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag and Shopian joined different militant ranks among which many were eliminated in past two years. According to sources arround 50 militants of LeT and JeM outfits of Pakistan are also active in Kashmir and are busily involved in encouraging local youth of Rajouri areas of Jammu and Kashmir regions to join militancy. Sources said that most of local youth over the years joined Hizbul-Mujahideen outfit and many wanted militants of this outfit are using all means like Social networking sites to encourage youth to join militancy. |
