Early Times Report

Rajouri, Feb 19: In 2010, the 31 Border Road Task Force (BRTF) under the aegis of Border Road Organization (BRO) undertook the work of widening and black toping of Rajouri-Budhal road, but this stretch of road yet has not been completed.
But after a gap of more than five years only few Km road could be black topped and the remaining stretch of 50 Kms is in very bad shape causing lot of inconvenience to the inhabitants of several villages situated between Rajouri and Budhal.
Pertinently, barring 3-4 Kms the entire road (about 50 Kms) falls in Darhal Assembly Constituency being represented by Ch Zulfikar Ali, former CAPD & Tribal Affairs Minister but the people alleged that elected representative too has failed to take up the matter seriously.
Recently the inhabitants of village Palma and its adjoining areas have held a protest demonstration on this road and demanded early completion of the road and construction work of the road was taken in hand by the 110 RCC Company of 31 BRTF and retain walls work has almost been completed.
"Tenders too were called for carpeting and black topping work and the work was also handed over to the contractors in May 2015, local said, adding, "The worst sufferers are employees, college/ school students and patients as the transporters have reduced the frequency of their vehicles apprehending damage to them on this bumpy and pothole filled road."
Sukhpal Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kotranka said that BRTF authorities have been directed to expedite the carpeting and black topping work on this road.
"I have fixed a meeting with the Commanding Officer of 110 Company this week to discuss about the progress of work and the deadline to complete black topping up to Kotranka," SDM added. Meanwhile a senior BRTF officer said, "The construction work was divided into two segments i.e. from 0 Kms to 27 Kms (up to Kotranka town) and 27 Km to 54 Km up to Budhal town." "From Kotranka to Budhal town the area falls in winter zone & the contractor has only few months to carry the construction work," he added. He added from 0 to 54 kilometres the people have encroached the road at 248 places which is another major reason in delaying of the construction work.
