Rahul Gandhi's Jammu visit divides PCC
2/20/2016 12:16:44 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 19: Annoyed over not taking them into confidence over Rahul Gandhi's proposed visit, the group having allegiance with the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, is learnt to have conveyed its displeasure with the PCC president G A Mir.
The Azad group is annoyed that the PCC president did not consult them before inviting Rahul Gandhi and scheduling tentative date for the proposed visit. Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Jammu on March 2 and address a public rally at Hari Singh Park besides interacting with the senior leaders over the organizational affairs.
Rahul's visit has been proposed amidst reports that Ghulam Nabi Azad was avoiding PCC president over the issue of fresh appointment of district presidents in State unit of Congress. As Mir secretly managed the proposed visit of Rahul for signaling his strength in the Congress, the matter was not discussed with other leaders in the party, particulary the Azad faction, sources explained.
The resentment against Mir came to fore yesterday when an important meeting of the party for discussing arrangements for Rahul’s visit, was boycotted by Azad faction. As Mr Mir personally rang up former Deputy Chief Minister and Azad loyalist Tara Chand to seek the support for success of the purposed visit, the latter purportedly conveyed his displeasure over the way their group was ignored. "There is no fun of participating in the meeting for discussing arrangements since we were not taken into confidence before scheduling the tentative date and now you pass on instructions only for our contribution," Tara Chand retorted notwithstanding his earlier very close relations with Mir.
According to the sources, the Azad faction has decided to participate in the proposed rally but with minimal strength and thus convey its displeasure against Mir, who is on target of the group ever since his installation as PCC president.
