Jammu, Feb 19: Thyroid testing machine in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, is not functioning for the last five months due to which patients are suffering. Sources informed Early Times that in the absence of Thyroid testing facility, every day dozens of patients from GMCH are being referred to Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu overloading the lab at Super Specialty hospital. They further said that the absence of Thyroid testing facility in GMCH has increased the difficulties of the patients visiting the hospital particularly old, infirm and poor who do not have any conveyance to reach from GMCH to Super Specialty Hospital, as there is no public transport facility available. "People with cardiac problems, neuro-surgical problems, obesity and pregnant ladies besides every routine patient who has to undergo surgery, is required to undergo Thyroid test", they said, adding that this Thyroid testing machine is of enormous importance but the GMCH administration have gone in deep slumber. Medical Superintendent, GMCH, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal, accepted that the Thyroid machine of the hospital is lying defunct for last many months. On being asked when the machine will be repaired, he said the machine is very old and there is no scope of its repair. "We have already placed the order for a new one and hopefully the new machine will reach within a week", he added. |
