Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Feb 19: A team of forest officials led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Baramulla instead of taking action against timber smugglers illegally demolished a Tin Shed constructed for rearing of sheep at Hajibal by an educated unemployed youth.
The 'illegal' action comes close on the heels of reports that the department has failed to retrieve forest land in different areas of this district including 20 Kanals of forest land in Zandafarn village only.
Sources told Early Times that forest officials led by DFO Baramulla 'illegally' destroyed makeshift tin shed constructed for rearing sheep on property land at Hajibal village.
"Dashing the dreams of earning livelihood of Tariq Lone from Khawaja Shahib Baramulla forest officials destroyed his makeshift tin shed constructed for rearing sheep at Hajibal village," said sources.
Tariq while sharing views said that he had acquired a piece of land from a land owner Sonaullah Reshi on rental basis bearing survey number 510/1 of revenue department. "But to my utter shock some people in combat uniform which later got identified as DFO Baramulla and his team demolished my shed without serving any prior notice to me," said Tariq.
Tariq said that DFO Baramulla allegedly thrashed his labourers terming the construction of shed illegal as according to him the land is forest land.
"I have revenue documents in support of my claim that land in question is not forest land and an inquiry report filed by Naib Tehsildar 'A' to District Development Commissioner Baramulla vide NO 3920/NTA dated 28-01-2016 clearly established the fact that land bearing survey number 510/1 in revenue village Hajibal is recorded in the name of Sultan Reshi in revenue record," said Tariq quoting an official letter of ADC Baramulla vide NO 2428/OQ Dated:02-2-2016.
Tariq approached DC Baramulla and other concern quarters, but nothing has been done to compensate his loss suffered by the illegal action of forest department.
"I want compensation to the damages caused by forest department since I have taken loan from bank and it took me years to get my case sanctioned from Sheep Husbandry department," he said.
At the same time sources said that forest department has failed to retrieve about 20 Kanals of forest land encroached by influential people in Zandfarn village of Sheeri area.
They said that there are several sheds on forest land but the concern DFO has failed to demolish them as the owners 'grease' the palms of forest officials.
DFO JV Division Irfan Ali Shah told Early Times that the tin shed was constructed illegally on forest land and it was demolished. When asked about revenue records had established it as property land under survey no 510/1, he said that, we don't have any concern with the revenue records, we rely upon our forest records when it comes to demarcation and DFO demarcation has been communicated to make demarcation in the area.
