Early Times Report KATRA, Feb 19: A two day long advance workshop on "Applications of Flow Cytometry in Biomedical Research" concluded today at School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra. Dr Rakesh Kumar and Dr Narendra K Bairwa, from School of Biotechnology, SMVDU in association with M/S BD biosciences organized the workshop. The focus of the workshop was to give hands-on training to the students and faculty on the latest technology in the field of flow cytometery. Flow cytometry is a laser-based, biophysical technology employed in cell counting, cell sorting, biomarker detection and protein engineering. Flow cytometry is routinely used in the diagnosis of health disorders, especially blood cancers, but has many other applications in basic research, clinical practice and clinical trials. Fifty delegates participated in the workshop, which included faculty from Schools of Biotechnology, and scholars from School of Biotechnology. The workshop started with detailed lectures by Dr Vinay Gupta, Application Scientist, BD biosciences. They also provided hands-on training on flowcytometer to the scholars of the department.
