CAPD dealers up in arms over non-release of commission | Call for indefinite strike, demand enhancement of commission after NFSA implementation | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Feb 23: CAPD dealers were today up in arms against the department over non- release of their commission since October 2014, including payments for the period when government had announced free ration after the September 2014 floods in the state. Since they called for an indefinite strike till their demand was met, it has affected the progress of verification of new ration cards to be issued under National Food Safety Act and distribution of e-ration slips to the people. CAPD dealers hailing from different parts of Kishtwar district today assembled outside main food store of Kishtwar and held a peaceful sit-in in support of their demand and called for an indefinite strike over the non-release of carriage commission, loading and unloading since October 2014 as a result of which they were facing a lot of problems in clearing the rent of stores and also in running their day to day affairs. Association president Khurshid Ahmed Malik said that they were being harassed in the name of filling of forms for ration cards for the last over six months, adding that they were being victimised now in the name of verification. Forms were earlier rejected twice for no fault of theirs and they had once again been asked to make fresh verification of ration cards. He said the job of verification was the duty of concerned department and added that they had even purchased forms by spending their own money to provide helping hand to the department for verification and filling of these forms under newly introduced NFSA scheme. Under NFSA, the commission of CAPD dealers would also get reduced as a result of which their families would also had to suffer and it would become difficult for them to pay rent of shops. He also slammed the department for charging Rs 7.28 for each empty jute bags while the market price of the same is Rs 2 to Rs 2.50. The value of plastic bags was zero in the market but the department was charging from them at the rate of jute bags, he alleged. He said till the commission was credited to their bank accounts, their strike would continue. When contacted, Assistant Director, CAPD, Semma Parihar told that the department had received some pending amount from the government and added that same would be used to clear some pending liabilities of the agitating dealers. "We are ready to address all the issues. It will take two to three days to clear liabilities ," said Semma Parihar. She assured that she would take up the issue of enhancement of commission of dealers and other matters with the concerned authorities. However, despite these assurances, the deadlock continued to persist when last report came in. |
