Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 23: Amid the deadlock over the Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is calling back the party veterans while prioritising to accord them the vital positions within the PDP.
Former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's trusted lieutenant and close aide Abdul Rahman Veeri has been appointed as chairman of the Election Board. Such a development besides giving clear hint that who would remain privy to the party affairs in the past has also indicated that if Mehbooba decides to assume office of the Chief Minister in the State, the veterans would get their due share and respect in the Government.
Sources divulged that besides Veeri, Nizam-ud-din Bhat and Sartaj Madani are being given the important responsibilities for the party's functioning in the State and that the PDP chief wants the experienced and learned men to implement party's agenda on ground. Sources said that the PDP president is keen to prefer old guards instead of the new comers in the party and that their role in the times to come would be vital and crucial.
Persons privy to this development said that as it would be for the first time that Mehbooba is holding the top post in Jammu and Kashmir, she has understood that she cannot go the long way while ignoring those who have proved their metal in politics of the State and understand the pulse of the governance.
Furthermore, besides the leaders, the PDP chief is maintaining a constant contact with those workers of the party who have proved their allegiance with the PDP at the time of its inception. "Mehboobaji was very much disturbed over hearing that so, PDP Ministers in the Government earlier had misbehaved with some senior party workers. All she wants to take all those workers and activists on board during the decision making vis-a-vis the party functioning," said a party functionary.
It was informed that Nizam-ud-din Bhat who has been the founding member of the party when it was formed has held series of meetings with the PDP chief over the measures needed to be taken for strengthening of the party. "Earlier, it was felt that party is virtually being run by few retired bureaucrats. Such a notion had to be ended and Mehbooba is the one who has always given preference to the party. Therefore, an overhaul in the days to come would be witnessed," sources said.
Muzaffar Beigh, another party veteran who earlier was disgruntled with the PDP functioning has occupied a Central stage in party's overall functioning. Beigh who earlier had raised his voice over some measures that the party took while being in the Government could now be seen accompanying Mehbooba during press and other vital meets. "Mehboobaji is the true leader. She understands the importance of the experienced men. She knows that once she assumes office of the Chief Minister, she would need the veterans," said a party leader.
