Jammu land mafia enjoys political patronage!
2/23/2016 11:56:29 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 23: Enjoying total political patronage the land mafia is ruling roost in Jammu with administration hesitating to lay hands on the structures constructed on the State land in various parts of Jammu, its outskirts and other districts.
Enjoying patronage of the political parties for vote bank politics the land mafia has created public nuisance and has also disturbed law and order situation. Despite the instructions from various statutory bodies the government has failed to remove the encroachments in Jammu region where people have forcibly grabbed thousands kanals of forest and State land in various areas.
According to sources some influential politicians who have also remained in governments from time to time are also involved in grabbing the state land across Jammu. The situation is more dangerous in Jammu where it has become a free for all affair and the land grabbers in full public glare and government for years have encroached thousands kanals of land. Right from Revenue Complex, Gole Gujral Talab Tillo to Beli Charana and Tawi Island many new colonies have been established on State land by the mafia groups in connivance with authorities.
The callousness of the authorities, law enforcing agencies and other organizations can be gauged from the fact that many houses were damaged and washed away in Tawi Island during the 2014 September floods. But the authorities turned a blind eye towards this fact.
The authorities instead of removing all the encroachments from the Government land are maintaining a stoic silence to appease the politicians who want their vote bank to be happy. The situation is not confined to Beli Charna, Tawi Island or Gole Gujral in Jammu but same is case in Sunjwan, Bathandi, Bantalab, Bari Brahmana, Vijaypur, Ramgarh Samba as well as in Kathua district where the local people many times have expressed concern over the increased land encroachments and have also taken to streets to protest against government's apathy.
The people in these areas have also lodged complaints with the government that due to land grabbing they have lost grazing land for cattle in the villages over the years.
But neither the government nor the social organizations, environmentalists have come forward to help them. The sorry state of affairs has reached to such a climax that the politicians are not bothered for the consequences. They just want to keep their vote bank intact.
