Police not to allow anti-national slogans near encounter site

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 23: Police and security agencies have taken a serious note about separatists trying to instigate the youth whenever any gunfight between militants and security forces take place in any area in Kashmir.
Sources told Early Times, top police officials and officers of other security agencies have asked their subordinates to take stern action against the people who are responsible for mobilizing and instigating the youth to raise anti-national slogans near the encounter site.
Pertinently, when the EDI gunfight was coming to an end at Sempora Pampore on Monday scores of youth assembled a few meters away from the encounter site and raised anti-national slogans.
The Inspector General of Police Kashmir while talking to a wire agency admitted that such anti-national acts make the job of force personnel difficult.
"On one hand our jawans have to fight terrorists while on the other hand Police have to ensure that law and order is not disturbed," the IGP said.
A police official, while referring to the killing of two students at Kakapora Pulwama in south Kashmir earlier this month, said, "As the gunfight was going on in the area hundreds of people assembled near the encounter site and started pelting stones on the security force personnel and tried to create confusion to pave way for the militants to escape.
Hostile crowd compelled the forces to open fire in which two civilians were killed."
He said, "Separatists have changed their strategy and have asked their henchmen to mobilize people whenever militants strike anywhere. This is a dangerous trend and we cannot allow it to become a headache for us."
The police official said that recently a decision was taken that bodies of the foreign militants won't be handed over to locals for burial and these would be buried in frontier town of Uri where the chances of crowd becoming hostile are negligible.
Police sources said that cops are on the job and they are preparing the list of the miscreants who are on the Payroll of the separatists.
"These henchmen have been instrumental in fomenting trouble and enforcing shutdowns whenever any militant is killed.
We hope we would tackle them in coming days and they would be cooling their heels behind the bars," sources added.
They said, " Police are also making the profile of the youth who have become noted stone pelters during the past few months. Immediate steps have to be taken to prevent situation from taking an ugly turn in future.
We are working on a strategy to ensure that whenever any encounter takes place civilians and miscreants won't be allowed to reach near the gun battle sight."
