Transport Deptt cautions transporters against violation of route permits

JAMMU, Feb 23: The state government has asked the Passenger Transport owners to stop plying their vehicles in violation of the route permits.
In a circular issued here, the Transport Department has said that it has come to the notice of the department that some passenger transport vehicles are found plying in violation of route permits allotted to them. "All Public Passenger Transport owners are directed to stop this malpractice which is a major violation of the conditions of issuance of route permits," it said adding any such vehicle, if found plying which are not mentioned in the route permit issued to the vehicle would be prosecuted without further notice.
The circular states that apart from suspension and cancellation of route permits under Section-86 of Motor Vehicles Act 1988, the vehicle shall be immediately seized for enforcement of the conditionality of the issuance of the route permits under section 72 of Motor Vehicles Act 1988. "Besides initiating penal action against the owners, the licence of the driver would also be suspended\cancelled for driving the vehicle in violation of the route permit and thereby resulting in mismanagement of traffic system of J&K State," it said.
