HC directive for ban on synthetic, sharp kite strings | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 23: A high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat today directed the advocate general to take instructions from the state government with regard to ban on sale, purchase and use of plastic, synthetic or Chinese sharp kite strings, called 'manja'. The court directive came in a PIL, seeking ban on sale, purchase and use of 'manja' in J&K as it is fatal to humans, animals and birds. After hearing the two sides, the bench issued notices to the commissioner of forest department, state pollution control board through its member secretary, IGP, Jammu, DC, Jammu, and SSP, Jammu. The deputy advocate general accepted notices. The bench directed the advocate general to take instructions from the state government with regard to the relief claimed in the PIL and further directed the Registry to list this matter on March 1, 2016. The advocate general submitted that the manja thread was very dangerous and sought some time from the bench to have instructions from the state functionaries so that some effective orders might be passed on the next date of hearing. He said an endeavour would be made to file response in the shortest possible time so that these petitions were disposed of with utmost promptitude. |
