Lal Chowk hoteliers present plethora of demands before Div Com Kashmir | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 23: Association of Hotel and Restaurant Operators of Lal Chowk (AHROL) has urged the state government to take steps for the proper development of the summer capital of the state so that it does not lose its sheen on the overall map of the country. The AHROL submitted a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon here at an interaction held today at a local hotel. "We suggest that the government should take measures to take over the premises of inner side of the Lala Rukh Hotel to utilize it as Mini Tourist Reception Centre to facilitate the interested tourists which in turn will help to increase the foot fall of the tourists to the area. In order to promote footfall to the area it is very important to provide space for 10 to 15 commercial vehicles. For this purpose, we suggest that the space within the inner side of the Lala Rukh hotel would be most feasible and suitable," said Siraj Ahmad, Chairman AHROL. The AHROL said that premises of burnt down Palladium Cinema is a black spot on the face of Lal Chowk area. The entire premises of cinema should be converted into a green patch with the provision of ultra modern public convenience. Footpaths or sidewalks need to be made free from occupation so that that pedestrians use these footpath or sidewalks. However, such occupants may suitably be rehabilitated by providing alternate arrangements. "The space provided by the government in the centre of Lal Chowk as a landscape for the purpose of beautification needs to be developed and utilized properly. The said premises may be used as food court to be run professionally by the hoteliers of Lal Chowk and other events be organized to attract tourists and locals," said the hoteliers. The hoteliers said that in order to revive the commercial and tourism activities of the area it is very necessary to put in place a special bus service from different destinations particularly from Parimpora, Pantha Chowk and Railway Station Nowgam. They suggested that fresh and modern buses be allowed to ply through Lal Chowk to meet the purpose. "The hotels and restaurants existing in Lal Chowk and its surroundings are badly suffering for want of renewal of their tourism registration certificates. Since most of the existing hotels in the area are decades old and operate their business premises from the first floor the factual position is that the hotels or the restaurants operating in this area are not able to comply the existing guidelines of SPCB on the ground that these Hotels or Restaurants do not have any space in their possession in the ground floor where they could meet the requirements," said AHROL. They said that the existing sewer line with proper connectivity for carrying the human waste/effluent coming out of these Hotels or Restaurants should be upgraded. The AHROL members also pitched for proper illumination of Lal Chowk and keeping in place the basic facilities that are there in a capital city. |
