Early Times Report Vijaypur, Feb 23: Day after the death of a youth of nomad community in clashes that erupted in Sarore on Monday, the locals and relatives of victim today blocked traffic on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway at Vijaypur in protest against his death. The protesters laid the body of the victim Mohammad Yaqoob, on the road during the protest and raised slogans against the authorities. Despite having the inputs, no preventive measures were taken by the district administration and security agencies to avert the untoward incident, in a result the blockade led to a massive traffic jam which disrupted vehicular movement for more than two hours. The protesters continued their protest for hours together while demanding compensation to the victim's family and lodging a criminal case against police personnel for killing the youth. Later, Ashqoor Wani, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Senior National Conference leader Mian Altaf, Surjeet Singh Slathia alongwith senior district officials reached the spot and assured the compensation and Magisterial enquiry into the incident. It was their assurance following which the protestosr lifted their protest and normal traffic was restored. |
