PM needs to pursue Venkataraman's line J&K: Hari Om | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 24: Terming Kashmir as a perennially restive region in the sensitive State of J&K, Prof Hari Om on Wednesday urged PM Narendra Modi and all right-thinking persons in corridors of power in New Delhi to de-link Jammu province from Kashmir and empower it to elect a government of its own choice so that the politically marginalized, economically and socially ignored and patriotic people of the region could shape and mould their political destiny within India and under the Indian Constitution, barring its seditionist Article 370 and discriminatory Article 35-A. "People of Jammu province have nothing to do with those in Kashmir who have been demanding Pakistan, independence, self-rule and autonomy and preaching hatred for the Indian nation. They hate and despise the Kashmiri perverted ideology and their politics of exclusion and oppression and suppression. They were, they are and they shall always be committed Indians. They are the true sons and daughter of the Mother India. Their actions, deeds and the supreme sacrifices which they made for the national cause in the state post-1947 are classic examples of their deep commitment to India," said Prof Hari Om. He added that the people of Jammu province are the master of their own destiny and they inhabit an area which is highly rich in natural resources, including precious waters, green-gold and invaluable minerals and, if given an opportunity to live independent of Kashmir and elect a government of their own choice, they would not only become a highly prosperous section of Indian society but also become a great asset for the wounded and bleeding Indian nation. "Jammu province is also highly strategic. A nationalist government in this part of the country is the need of the time. To defeat the nefarious games of anti-India elements in Kashmir, political empowerment of people of the region is imperative and a national requirement. They can be empowered only if they exercise power to legislate and this could be possible only if Jammu region is segregated from Kashmir Valley, the trouble-spot and den of anti-India conspiracies, and granted the status of statehood," said Prof Hari Om. Why should the people of Jammu province suffer for the misdeeds of Kashmiri leadership and its regressive and anti-India politics?, he asked, adding that even former President of India R Venkataraman had asked Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to "give to Ladakh whatever it wants, confer the status of statehood on Jammu and deal with Kashmir separately". Had Indira Gandhi appreciated the sane advice of late Venkataraman, things in J&K today would have been totally different and New Delhi could have by tackled Kashmir very effectively, asserted Prof Hari Om. "Kashmir is not the sole determinant; it's not the only factor in the state's political situation. Kashmir can't be allowed to dictate terms. Jammu and Ladakh have their own distinct identities and personalities and they must be treated as such," said Prof Hari Om, adding that PM Modi would be remembered for centuries if he limited the area of strife to the Valley proper, which doesn't constitute even five per cent of the state's land area, by separating not only Jammu province but also Ladakh region from Kashmir. He expressed hope that PM Modi will appreciate the ground realities in the state and undo the wrong Indira Gandhi committed by not accepting and implementing the Venkatraman's Kashmir solution. |
