Bad road connectivity exaggerates miseries of people, 3000 souls suffer | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Feb 24: The tall claims of the State government about providing of better road connectivity in villages fall flat when construction work on road from Kathera to Lardi comes to halt further exaggerating miseries of atleast 3000 souls living in the small helmets in the locality, Locals also have staged a protest demanding restarting of work on the road and elected MLA. "Due to the pathetic condition of roads the commuters and pedestrians are facing huge inconvenience every day," the locals said. "Nearly 3000 people suffer due to road connectivity for decades but nobody came ahead to ask their grievances," Kuldeep Singh, a student lamented and alleged on Public Works Department (PWD) to stop construction work on road from Kathera to Lardi, the reason best known to officials concerned. People hailing from Lardi, Panchayat Juthana, Assembly constituency Billawar today staged protest against local MLA and expressed resentment against PWD/ State government. 3000 people including 200 students who had to walk approximately 12 kms everyday on foot to reach their destinations that would surprise everyone who talks about Digital India. Hukkam Singh, a local added that students leave house four hours prior to school timings to reach in schools and colleges on time that affect their study. He said that people face number of problems during emergency for medical care but despite assurance from former Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh (MLA Billawar Constituency) and XEn PWD Kathua, nothing has been done to redress the sufferings of people. "The roads in the area are bumpy and dotted with potholes, another villager added. "The construction work on this road began in 2006, was stopped after construction of 3 km road from Kathera that is being damaged now due to lack of maintenance, locals alleged. Locals said that even a small downpour inundates the roads and it becomes immensely difficult for the pedestrians to walk. "The problem gets compounded when the villagers have to ferry the patients as it takes hours to reach there even when you have your own vehicle at disposal," another local added. When contacted Er PK Phonsa, XEn PWD, he accepted the sufferings of 3000 people but leaves the matter on high authority and said that the work cost price of Rs 239 lakhs was stopped due to shortage of fund. He added that the department received seven lakhs that was utilized in the construction of road, Construction work will begin subject to availability of funds. |
