Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 24: Jammu and Kashmir government will release Rs 10 crore for paying compensation to traders, who were badly affected due to devastating flood in September 2014, in the Srinagar district. Though some small affected traders were paid Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 in Srinagar during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition government, majority traders alleged that they were left out. Traders have also hit the streets and observed strikes, demanding release of rehabilitation package. They alleged that even after more than 18 months, government has so far failed to help the traders, including in historic Lal Chowk and other main business hubs in the city, who suffered extensive damage in the floods after their establishments remained under more than 20 feet water for about ten days. Thousands of shops and other business establishments were damaged in Srinagar. An official spokesman said Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon has directed for release of Rs 10 crore to District Development Commissioner Srinagar for flood-affected traders. |
