| Sun playing hide & seek, wet weather continues to elude Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 4: Sun was today playing hide and seek though wet weather continued to elude Kashmir valley, where the Meteorological department has been predicting isolated rain for the past three days.
There was further improvement in the mercury in the valley, where a MeT spokesman has predicted isolated rain during the next 48 hours.
He said there could be isolated rain today and during the subsequent 48 hours in the valley, where people witnessed yet another warm night due to above normal temperature.
Leh and Kargil in the Ladakh region continued to record below freezing temperature and the weather will remain dry during the next four days.
After witnessing above normal temperature during the night, people woke up to a cloudy morning though sun appeared as the day progressed in the valley.
The Met department has been predicting isolated rain in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, for the past three days. However, due to weak Western Disturbances (WD) rain still eluded the valley. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here connected by helicopter service from Srinagar Airport, witnessed further surge in the minimum temperature. Against yesterdays, 1.6 degree, it was 2.1 degree, more than six notches above normal.
The maximum temperature yesterday at the ski resort was 8 degree above normal, resulting in early melting of slopes. The authorities have already postponed national skiing championship due to less snow this winter.
There was also no change in the mercury at Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, where the maximum temperature remained eight notches above normal yesterday. The minimum temperature was 0.7 degree, about three degree above normal.
As the snow had started melting on upper reaches, the water level in river Lidder, passing through Pahalgam has witnessed increase.
Qazigund, Kokernag in south Kashmir and Kupwara in north Kashmir also received several degree above normal maximum and minimum temperature.
The summer capital, Srinagar, continued to witness above normal temperature though today sun was playing hide and weather continued to remain pleasant.
After recording nine degree above normal maximum temperature yesterday, the minimum temperature was 4.4 degree, more than six degree above normal in the city.
The MeT spokesman said the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 18 degree and 5 degree respectively in the city during the next 24 hours.
At Leh the minimum temperature was minus 5.3 degree against yesterdays minus 3.9 degree while at border town of Kargil it was mius 3.4 degree against yesterdays minus 5.6 degree. Partly cloudy sky and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 9 degree and minus 8 degree respectively at Leh during the next 24 hours, the spokesman said. |
