JKMSC eats up GMCH space, sets up lavish office, storage within premises | 'Faction of hospital authorizes looks towards 'Guv's intervention' | | Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 4: It might be a good decision to set up Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC) Ltd for streamlining drugs and medicines procurement to health institutions but it is surprising that it has eaten up space of already shrunk space for the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu courtesy some influence from certain quarters and this row has become an issue for debate among hospital management. As the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC) Ltd has established its 'lavish' office for Managing Director and officials within GMCH Jammu ironically at the space identified for 'Drug Store' for Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu and this has evoked sharp reaction from various quarters. Pertinently the premier hospital of Jammu province with 1200 bed strength already is balancing within swallowing population of region and the space it had now has to feel the brunt of the space eaten up by the lavish office of Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC) Ltd. Some voices within the GMCH Jammu in a hush-hush manner questioned God Forbid if there would be an eventuality and what if the hospital needs more space or the immediate supply of drugs and that in this case i.e. would not be possible after the setting up JKMSC Office instead of the much needed and pre requisite 'drug store.' Pertinently the said 'drug store' has been established in the view of hospital's demands regarding drugs and also after Medical Council of India (MCI) New Delhi pulled up the hospital management in this regard. Hospital sources told Early Times that JKMSC sought space for 'warehousing medicines' in the premises of GMCH Jammu on the directions of former Minister for Health and Medical Education Department and the same was granted but instead of drug store, they established lavish 'Corporation' office within hospital premises. Sources said, "The bucks didn't stop here but the officials from Corporation are now demanding more space for the 'store' to house basic drugs, fluids and other to cater the demands of the hospital." "If more space will be provided to them, it would be difficult to manage the routine affairs of GMCH Jammu in space shortage," sources asked. They added after providing space to the Corporation, limited space has been left with the GMCH's store and one more deficiency would be developed if team of MCI will inspect. Criticizing the decision of H&ME department for allotting space in GMCH within hospital premises, some senior officials of the hospital management seeking anonymity alleged that this step has been taken on the direction of former Minister to appease him without taking in confidence of GMCH's management and the decision was totally wrong despite having space at Nagrota. "We don't know whether the permission can be granted to a public or private corporation within the Government premises without any rent or not? All attempts to contact Managing Director of JKMSC Dr Yashpal Sharma turned futile as he couldn't be contacted despite repeated attempts. |
