Early Times Report

Mandi, (Poonch) Mar 4: Demanding immediate roll back of National Food Security Act (NFSA), launched recently in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as an inquiry into the stocking of eleven thousand solar lights, the National Conference (NC) workers today staged a massive protest in Mandi of Poonch district.
Led by Jammu Provincial President of Youth National Conference, Ajaz Jan, a large number of National Conference workers and locals assembled at Mandi this morning.
Amid slogans the protestors staged protest and demanded early roll back of National Food Security Act terming it harmful for general public and also demanded probe in storing of solar lights.
Addressing the protestors, senior NC leader said, "Most of the details in the lists prepared for NFSA are wrong with a large number of poor families removed from the ration beneficiary list without any reason which shows PDP BJP coalition launched NFSA without preparations."
He urged Governor of state to roll back the act terming NFSA harmful for Jammu and Kashmir.
"Even Government of India itself mentioned that in some states including J&K, NFSA will prove harmful but despite of this PDP-BJP coalition launched this anti-people food act " they added.
Targeting the previous PDP BJP government, National Conference leaders also alleged that a mega initiative for providing solar lights to the people of Poonch was put iinto cold storage merely for political reasons and an impartial inquiry should be conducted in the matter."Keeping in view the power crisis, in 2014, 11000 solar lights were sanctioned for Poonch district by than Union Minister for New and Renewable Source of Energy, Farooq Abdullah but soon after the sanctioning, floods hit the state and then assembly polls were announced due to which Omar Abdullah led government was not able to distribute these lights among poor masses," Jan said.
"After formation of new government, the initiative of distributing solar lights was put in back burner "Jan alleged adding that the delay in it was merely on the basis of political gains. " We demand an inquiry as thousands of solar lights, stocked in Poonch, are developing technical snags and are posing loss to government exchequer and those who are delaying the distribution of lights should be nailed " Jan said.Besides this Youth NC Provincial President Ajaz Jan also said that due to polarization of society by BJP and PDP only for their political gains, students of Jammu and Kashmir studying outside state are in a state of constant fear and insecurity and Governor’s administration should initiate steps to ensure their security.
Harcharan Singh Khalsa, Abdul Ahad Bhat, Sadardin Chak, Ghulam Abbas, Saleem Khari, Moulvi Fareed Ahmed and others also spoke on the occasion.
