KETC constitutes executive body for eco-conservation | Sheikh Ashiq Chairman, Nasir Shah Vice Chairman | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Mar 4: In a bid to boost eco-conservation at the tourist spots in Kashmir Valley, the Kashmir Economic Tourism Club(KETC) today formally constituted its Executive body, with prominent businessman and social activist Sheikh Ashiq as its Chairman. Active for the past over a year, the KETC, is a consortium of various business houses of Kashmir, including those dealing with tourism industry. The club has organized several awareness camps and other events in collaboration with the divisional administration. At a meeting held at Hotel Lake Resort, the club elected its executive body with prominent tour operator Nasir Ahmed Shah of CNE Holidays and Shamim Shah of Sha Travels as vice-Chairmen. "Sameer Ahmmad Baktoo (ITC Kashmir) is the Secretary General, Yaseen Tuman(Mascot Travels), the :Joint Secretary and Manzoor Pakthoon (Silk Rout Travels), the Treasurer of the organization," the KETC handout said. The newly elected body resolved for the eco-protection of tourist destinations in the Srinagar city and elsewhere in the Valley. The KETC spokesman said in the wake of alarming climatic change which Kashmir witnessed this year, it has become inevitable for concerned citizens to be silent to the environmental degradation. "This is just the beginning of the coordinated efforts for environmental conservation and we look ahead to rope in people from all spheres of life to make this mission a success," the spokesman said. Pertinently, Ashiq, former President of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, is the managing partner of the Alkhuddam Group of Companies. A mechanical engineer by profession, he has been religiously been working on the improvement business sector , particularly upliftment of artisans. |
