Hit 'n' run case: Locals stage protest, block Jmu-Poonch Road

Rajouri, Mar 21: Inhabitants of Sangpur of Rajouri district today blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for over three hours while demanding fair and partial probe into the alleged killing of their Nambardar, Satnam Sharma who was mauled by a speedy car here today.
Deceased identified as Satnam Sharma s/o Dev Raj Sharma had gone to Narian but was crushed to death under suspicious circumstances allegedly by a speeding car while standing on the road side.
Family members of the deceased and the villagers alleged that the deceased had some dispute with one Rakesh Kumar s/o Karnail Singh of the same village (Sangpur). Agitated over the alleged murder of village head, the locals blocked the highway at Chingus at about 2.30 pm demanding arrest of the accused and compensation for the family members. Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nowshera along with tehsildar (as village Narian falls under their jurisdiction) and inspector Chaman Gorkha , SHO, Rajouri police station along with police force rushed to Chingus and tried to pacify the protesters.
After a one hour long marathon efforts police pacified the protestors by assuring to lodge FIR against Rakesh Kumar as mentioned in the complaint handed over to police by the family members. It was police's assurance after which protestors lifted their protest and the traffic was resumed at about 5.30 pm. Here it needs to mention that at about 12.30 pm Satnam Sharma was standing on the highway side when an alto car deliberately hit him and the driver along with car managed to escape from the scene. Locals from nearby shops rushed to accident spot and accordingly informed the police. Meanwhile family members alleged that Satnam had some dispute for the last many months with Rakesh Kumar of the same village. "The involvement of Rakesh can't be ruled out in the crime as he had threatened the Satnam in the past also and police must investigate his role in today's incident" said a relative of the deceased.
