Frightened BJP invokes late Mufti to win over Mehbooba | | | ET Report Jammu, Mar 21: The possibility of fresh elections in J&K has frightened the BJP legislators. They have indicated their fear and nervousness through equally frightened Ravinder Raina, MLA from Nowshera. They are mortally afraid of facing the people to seek a fresh mandate and are frightened to the extent that they have gone to the extent of invoking late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to motivate his daughter and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to follow in the footsteps of her father and form coalition Government with the BJP without losing a moment. "Holding of fresh election in the State is not economically viable and the people of State can't afford such a heavy burden," he said while expressing the fear of the BJP. "The party would stick to the 'Agenda of Alliance' that had been agreed upon with PDP a year ago. Any deviation would amount to disrespecting former late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed," Ravinder Raina, along with another party MLA, on Sunday said in Jammu, adding that several PDP legislators who were in favour of Government formation in J&K were in touch with them. "Several PDP legislators who are in favor of the formation of the Government in the State and who also don't want midterm polls in the State are in touch with the BJP leadership for the formation of the Government," Ravinder Raina said. In other words, the BJP legislators from Jammu who, according to BJP's ideologue Madhu Kishwar, are "exceptionally untalented, clueless and greenhorns", -- apart from urging and appealing to Mehbooba Mufti to follow in the footsteps of her late father and form coalition Government with the BJP - virtually sought to blackmail her by telling her that there were so many power hungry and mean legislators in the PDP who would not mind ditching her and joining hands with the BJP in case she refused to imitate her father. Raina, who was till not so long ago was known for his radical views on J&K, Article 370, demilitarization, refugees from West Pakistan, indicated his nervousness and fear to the extent that he also told Mehbooba Mufti that the BJP has many options to form Government in the State. "The BJP has 'several options' to form Government in the State, if the alliance with PDP breaks down, but would disclose them when the time comes," Raina said. To be more precise, he told Mehbooba Mufti that the BJP could forge alliance with the NC in case the PDP dumped the BJP or rejected the suggestions of the opportunists in the State BJP. The BJP had in the past ditched Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, who fought against NC and Sheikh Abdullah and laid down his life in Kashmir for the national cause, and shook hands with Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. Omar Abdullah became part of the Vajpayee's ragtag NDA Government. Raina also took the opportunity to taunt, ridicule and abuse the people of Jammu province -- who gave the BJP a massive mandate both in the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections - saying that the BJP surrendered their rights to become part of the State Government. "The BJP for smooth running of coalition agreed to keep its core issues like abrogation of Article 370 and Ek Vidhan Ek Prdhan etc away from the agenda…There were many issues of BJP which were part of agenda but no progress was made on them during the last 10 months of coalition rule. But for the same we have not come out with statements as 10 months is not a sufficient period in which agenda of alliance could be realized…Among the main issues which were in the agenda included delimitation of constituencies in Jammu as the region has more area and population than Kashmir, settlement of PoJK refugees and grant of rights to West Pak refugees, rehabilitation of migrants and other militancy victims from Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, grant of rights to SCs and STs at par with other States of the country and giving a corruption free Government to people," he said in this regard. What he said suggested two things. One, the BJP sacrificed Jammu to keep the Kashmiri party in good humour. Two, he made a fool of himself when he asserted that the agenda of alliance talked about delimitation of constituencies in Jammu, settlement of PoJK refugees and grant of rights to West Pak refugees, rehabilitation of migrants and other militancy victims from Kashmir Valley and Jammu region and grant of rights to SCs and STs at par with other States of the country. It was the BJP's vision document that talked about these issues and not the agenda of alliance. It is clear that Raina, like all others in the BJP, has not read the agenda of alliance at all. Had he read it and understood it, he would not have made such spurious and laughable claims and become a laughing stock. The fact of the matter is that Ravinder Raina only exposed himself and other BJP MLAs and established that the BJP has no morals, no commitment and no self-respect. |
