No headway in releasing migrants ration | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 21: No headway has been so far made in releasing the ration to Kashmiri migrants for the month of February and March after the displaced people from Valley refused to take ration as per the scale of National Food Security Act (NFSA) saying that the people dependent on cash doles from Centre can't be brought under the purview of NFSA. What can be more callousness of the authorities towards the hapless people that for the first time in last 26 years of their migration were deprived of ration on the occasion of holy festival of Maha Shivratri. This has generated a lot of resentment among the displaced Pandits who even resorted to agitation at Jagti and other camps protesting against the apathy of the State government towards them. The Pandits while challenging the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) for brining them under the purview of NFSA said that amount incurred on their monthly ration is debited to security related expenses as the relief holders neither fall under APL nor BPL category and the cash doles and ration given to them by the Government is an aid for their sustenance and survival. Though the issue was discussed with State Government authorities with Union Home Ministry officials during March 11 meeting at Union Capital and the Home Ministry in principle had agreed to settle the issue but no headway has been made till date as no official order was circulated by the Government regarding issuing of relief to migrants on old scale. Various KP organisations including All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC), Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) Jagti Camp Coordination Committee (JCC), Jagti Tenement Committee, (JTC), Jagti Welfare Committee, All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AMCCC), Migrant Welfare Committees of Purkhoo, Buta Nagar, Muthi and Purkhoo camps have shown their total resentment against the same. Besides the migrant wings of BJP, PDP as well as Congress have also aired their opposition to the government decision. The migrants are up in arms and they are bracing up for the agitation in case government fails to redress the issue, said Desh Rattan president AMCCC. JTC president Shadi Lal Pandita while supporting the same said they would block traffic on the National Highway if the government failed to provide ration to them. "We will be left with no option but to block the national highway as the majority of the displaced families are dependent on the monthly ration supply," Pandita added. "The government's apathy in implementing the National Food Security Act (NFSA) for Kashmiri migrants has added to the suffering of these people, who have been deprived of monthly ration supplies since February this year," he claimed. Migrant communities do not fall under the purview of NFSA and the government should ensure the release of their rations from February, 2016, till the present, he said. Pandita also demanded an increase in the monthly cash assistance to the tune of Rs 25,000 per month for each migrant family. He further said that the Kashmiri Pandit community was interested in settling permanently in the Valley and a satellite township near Srinagar should be established at the earliest for the same. |
