Drabu, Parra take first flight to Delhi | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Mar 21: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti left for New Delhi at 1:40 pm on Monday only after getting a "positive signal" from her party colleagues Haseeb Drabu and Wahid-ur-Rehman Parra that things were feasible for her personal visit. Sources said Mehbooba was scheduled to visit the national capital alone. "But in a late night development, it was decided that before her, they (Drabu and Parra) should personally analyze the situation there," the sources said. This morning at around 7:30 AM, the duo was seen at the Srinagar International Airport where from they took the first flight. Sources said the duo personally called on some senior BJP leaders in New Delhi and subsequently by 11:30 AM made a phone call to party high command back home to give a green signal for Mehbooba's travel. The sources said the two parties have agreed on Government formation and that the things would be decided during the meeting with Arun Jaitley on Tuesday afternoon. This will be followed by the meeting with Modi after which the two parties are scheduled to make announcement before media. Sources said Mehbooba would be accompanied by Drabu and Parra for the crucial talks. A senior PDP leader said the party is hopeful to end the deadlock. "We expect the announcement over the much-awaited Government formation by Wednesday," the PDP leader told Early Times. The developments, which took place during the course of the day, renewed hopes in PDP circles that new channels of communication have been opened with the BJP. The talks had broken down after BJP's national General Secretary Ram Madhav, said no conditions would be accepted from the PDP prior to Government formation. But a ray of hope emerged on March 20, when Arun Jaitley said BJP was firmly committed to the "agenda of governance in J&K". Sources said it was only because of the hectic efforts of PDP stalwart and MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig that the skies started to clear over the Government formation. Since the demise of the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in January, Baig has been seen as a driving force behind the party. He has been advocating the continuation of his party's alliance with the BJP. Meanwhile in another significant development, the PDP has called for a party meeting on Thursday at Mehbooba's Fairview residence here where she would be elected as the leader of the party for the proposed Government formation. Though the PDP had cancelled the plans to the party meeting, sources said it was an Early Times report that prompted them to hold the meeting. This newspaper had reported that there were chances of "internal rebellion" within the PDP and that some party MLAs would approach the Central Government with the proposal to form the Government. The "rebel" MLAs, it was feared, would pose to be the leaders the party asking BJP to join hands with them. "But now things will be formally clear on Thursday when the meeting will be held and Mehbooba Ji will be declared as the leader for Government formation," said a PDP leader asking not to be identified. |
