Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 28: Up in arms against the government's callousness and apathy towards them the Kashmiri migrants continued protest in Jagti township today against the failure of the authorities to release the ration quota of last two months.
The protest demonstrations were held at different places in Jagti township today and inmates of the township in large numbers joined them to protest against the Government's apathy towards the peace loving people of the State.
A protest demonstration was organized by Jagti Tenement Committee in the township in which besides the camp inmates the leaders of various displaced Pandit organizations participated. The protestors raising slogans in support of their demands urged the authorities to ensure the supply of the last two month’s ration at an earliest.
Addressing the protestors president JTC said it is unfortunate that for the first time in last 26 years of community's displacement the migrants were denied the ration on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. He said for last two months the relief holders are without ration and the Government seems totally unconcerned towards the issue with the result some families are at the verge of starvation.
He said though Government is fully aware of the circumstances which led to mass migration of the minority Hindus from the Valley it is not known how the administration decided to bring the community under NFSA when the relief given to them is debited to security related expenses and hence the NFSA can't apply on them.
The protestors raised slogans against the administration's decision making NFSA applicable to them due to which the quota of ration to migrants was decreased to a great extent. They demanded that the same be issued at an earliest.
Another protest was held by Kashmiri Displaced Forum. The protestors said by enforcing the NFSA on migrants the Government has put the hapless people to miseries. They said that the situation is alarming in camps and non camp areas as migrants are without ration for last two months.
The protestors said that the unconcerned approach of the Government is main cause of the problem and warned that in case the ration was not supplied on old scale at an earliest the migrants will intensify agitation.
However official sources said that the Union Home Ministry officials during its recent meeting with Revenue and Relief Department of the State in principle had agreed to supply ration to migrants on the old scale saying that the NFSA was not applicable to them.
The State Government officials in the meeting were asked to provide ration to migrants as per old scale.
However till date the State Government has failed to fulfill the same creating a lot of resentment among them.
