Early Times Report
srinagar, Mar 28: PDP leadership is busy dealing out Cabinet berths of their share for upcoming PDP-BJP Government and major overhauling is in the offing.
Well placed sources told Early Times that leadership is keen to introduce new faces from Central, North and South Kashmir in Cabinet this time and rest many from previous Government.
Sources said that one section of leadership is mulling to replace three former Ministers of State (MoS’) with three new faces hailing from North and south Kashmir, while another section of leadership is adamant to include one MoS from Ladakh this time.
They said that new Government may see a senior leader of PDP enjoying portfolio of Tourism Ministry which in previous Government was with former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and portfolio of Finance Ministry may also be replaced by a noted face of PDP.
The decision to overhaul Cabinet berths this time, according to sources, was taken after five legislators from different parts of Kashmir smelled bleak future for PDP in case they are not included in Cabinet this time and their respective constituencies are ignored from development point of view.
Sources disclosed that PDP chief and designated Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti is advocating for major overhauling in Cabinet berths this time, however some senior leaders of the party are yet to give their consent.
They said that leadership has consensus on starting some creditable developmental projects in Central, North and South Kashmir and complete in a time bound manner to safeguard vote bank for future times to come.
Sources disclosed that many legislators had complained mistrust among common masses and PDP workers towards party and leadership after breakdown of former PDP-BJP Government.
They said that taking cognizance of ground reports of legislators from their respective constituencies, senior leadership is mulling a strategy to run Government smoothly with BJP and met goals set to save skin for future times to come and face opposition with open chest.
In Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's Government PDP had 11 Cabinet Ministers and three Ministers of State (MoS) in total of 25 Ministers.
The PDP has 27 MLAs this time (it had 28 before Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's death) and the party has support of one independent MLA from the Ladakh division.
The BJP has 25 MLAs and support of three others, two from the Peoples Conference and one independent.
The total strength of State Legislative Assembly is 87 and last Assembly elections threw a fractured mandate in favour of PDP, BJP, NC, Congress and independents.
Jammu and Kashmir was placed under Governor's rule on January 8, a day after then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away after a brief period of illness in Delhi.
