Poonch, Mar 28: Following the publication of a news item as regards the encroachment of 250 kanals of state land at Gohlad in Mendhar, the revenue department woke up from its slumber today and retrieved the land. The land, that falls under khasra Nos 1061 and 1396, was being encroached upon by some people for the past 20 years. In revenue records, the land, shown as 'kahchrai', is being used by farmers to graze their cattle. Six structures had so far been constructed on it. Taking cognizance of the ET report, District Development Commissioner M H Malik constituted a team of SDM Sher Singh, Tehsildar Salam Din, Naib-Tehsildar Aftab Hussain, Patwari Aziz Ahmad, SDPO Shahid Naeem and SHO Afzal Mir and directed them to remove the illegal structures from the encroached land, sources said. While a heavy contingent of police personnel was deployed in and around the area, the team demolished all the illegal structures on the land, besides removing all other encroachments. Locals said that this was for the first time that revenue department had removed encroachments from the state land in Mendhar town. Malik said the team had done a wonderful job and deserved to be appreciated. |
