Srinagar, Mar 28: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hussain Samoon has alleged that Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar, had become a hub of corruption and nepotism. "I being an outspoken person must not hesitate to say that doordrashan Kendra, Srinagar, has become a hub of corruption where fraud cheque scandal worth crores has surfaced. There is no accountability and it has become a hub of indiscipline which is the only reason as to why senior and eminent artists are struggling for their payments," Samoon told reporters during a press conference at Banquet hall on the conclusion of music festival 'Samapa'. He was replying to a query regarding dramas staged as a mark of protest by various doordarshan artists who had been demanding immediate release of their pending payments. "This approach has blotted rich history of Kashmir's cultural music and I do agree with the artists who have been witnessing hardships in the absence of payments," he added. Samoon also instructed Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone to immediately approve municipal office at Sher-i-Kashmir Municipal Park for media activities. Samoon assured scribes that the municipal building would be used as Press Club and all the prerequisite facilities would be ensured for smooth functioning media activities. On being asked as to what sort of facilities would be provided, he said "Whatever facilities you people need, we will be happy to provide. A well maintained Press Club with modern facilities, including a computer lab, will be set up for scribes to do their work with ease." He said besides Srinagar, Press Clubs would be provided to other districts as well. On Samapa Music festival, which was organized by Santoor Maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori, he said, "Cultural programmes based on Kashmiri folk music was organized by Samapa group that concluded yesterday, it was twenty days festivals organized in all districts that receive overwhelming response from the public."
