With highest Central assistance, J&K shows lowest GSDP growth

Jammu, Mar 28: The economically fragile Jammu and Kashmir was the only state, which showed negative growth rate of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) despite highest funding by Union government in the form of Central Assistance to state plan.
According to the recent data furnished by Union Statistical office, for the financial year 2014-15, only Jammu and Kashmir had shown a negative growth of GSDP at constant prices and was pegged at 0.96 (in negative) percent. While as for the previous two financial years, state had shown a GSDP growth rate at constant prices as 7.33 % for 2013-14 and 2.80 % for 2012-13.
Moreover for the same financial year of sluggish GSDP growth, the state had received highest funding from Union government to special category states in the form of Central Assistance to state plan to the tune of Rs. 12771.28 Crores for year 2014-15.
Further, for the year 2015-16 Jammu and Kashmir has so far received Rs. 3885.51 Crores upto 8/3/2016, despite repeated assurance of Union government for liberal funding after Peoples Democratic Party and Bhartiya Janta Party (PDP-BJP) coalition took reins of power in state.
The other special category states except three-whose data was not compiled- all other states have shown huge growth rate in comparison to Jammu and Kashmir, despite less funding by Union government.
The GSDP growth rate for the financial year 2014-15 shown by other special category states at constant prices were Assam-3.34 %, Arunachal Pradesh-6.41 %, Himachal Pardesh-7.46 %, Meghlaya 2.28 %, Mizoram 8.86 %, Nagaland-7.26 %, Uttrakhand-7.33 % while as data for three states including Sikkim, Tripura and Manipur was available. And for the same financial year, these states received less Central Assistance from Union government which was as Assam got Rs.12407 Crores, Arunachal Pradesh got Rs. 4286 Crores, Himachal Pradesh-6098.07 Crores, Manipur-3722.11 Crores, Meghalaya-2825 Crores, Mizoram-2876 Crores, Nagaland-3531 Crores, Sikkim-1909 Crores, Tripura-4713 Crores and Uttrakhand-5762 Crores.
