Jammu, Mar 28 : In order to sensitise the students of life sciences about the diversity of various animal groups prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir, one day symposium on Taxonomy of various animal groups of J&K was organised by Department of Zoology, GGM Science College, Jammu in collaboration with Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing, J&K. Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest for the symposium whereas O.P Sharma, Director, Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing, J&K, was the guest of honour. Dr. Ajeet Angral, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division Colleges presided over the function. Prof. D.N. Sahi, Professor of Zoology, University of Jammu and Prof. S.P.S. Dutta, Professor Emeritus, Department of E.V.S. University of Jammu were the guest speakers of the day. While speaking on the occasion Prof. Poonam Dhawan explained the significance of the symposium in promoting the conservational strategies concerning ecology. O.P. Sharma enchanted the audience with his characteristic way of explaining vernacular taxonomy of various animal and plant groups of J&K. He shared his first hand experiences with the wildlife of J&K and appreciated the administration for result oriented symposium. Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Ajeet Angral, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division Colleges shared with audience that a series of programmes are being organized to involve the students in various issues related with academic and cultural values. |
