J&K wins Junior, Sub-Junior Sport Climbing titles | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 28 : Jammu and Kashmir climbers kept the state flag flying high by winning the 4th Junior as well as Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship which was hosted by Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering Association at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu. In the Sub Junior category, state climbers completely swept the medals tally winning two gold and equal number of silver and bronze medals. The other teams from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and UP were no match against the strong J&K climbers. Whereas Ajay Deep Singh, Arun Deep and Mandeep Singh secured the first three positions in the Sub-junior boys category, the first three positions in the Sub-junior girls section bagged by Asma Gul of Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here and Kulsuma Banoo and Aisha Tabassum of Haji Public School, Doda. While, Shivpreet Pannu, a nationalist medalist, gave Punjab a head start by winning a gold medal in Lead climbing in the Girls (Junior) category, the two J&K climbers Shivani and Shilpa who secured second and third place behind Shivpreet, came back strongly in Speed climbing with Shivani, national champion in speed climbing, winning the gold in style and Shilpa clinching a silver medal. Shivpreet had to be content with a bronze medal. Similarly, in the Boys (Junior) Lead and Speed climbing competitions only Govind of Haryana, a national medalist, could pose some challenge to the strong J&K team led by Aman Dogra, a national speed climbing champion and Mrityunjay Sharma, a national medalist. In all, over 200 climbers from various Northern states participated in the two-day competition, organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K under the auspices of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. In the finals and valedictory functions, Chairman, Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, S Bhattacharjee was chief guest, who gave away medals and cash prizes amounting to Rs.41000 to the winners as also mementoes to all the participating teams and national technical officials as well as local officials. Later, the chief guest, S Bhattacharjee was felicitated by Director of the host Sprawling Buds School, Arti Sharma. |
