Principal Investigator of the Network Project and Scientist Incharge of the Regional Horticulture Research Sub-station Bhaderwah, Dr Mahital Jamwal advised the participants to undertake the practice of propagation of walnut plants under low cost poly houses to increase their propagation survivality.

The budded and grafted walnut plants comes into bearing in much shorter time as compared to the seedling walnut plants which normally takes 12-15 years to reach their commercial bearing. He emphasized that the propagation of walnut plants may be undertaken using high quality plant material for stock and scion preferably with commercial cultivars.

He also suggested control measures against insects and diseases in the walnut plant nurseries and during their propagation under poly houses and more humid conditions.
