Suspense continues over oath ceremony, portfolios | Govt formation | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 30: As suspense continues over assumption of charge by the new PDP-BJP alliance Government, there is no word from either end as to when oath ceremony will take place, nor is any confirmed report with regard to structure and size of the Cabinet and Council of Ministers led by Mehbooba Mufti. The leadership of both the parties are taking assessment of things before taking final call on distribution of portfolios which is learnt to be a matter between Mehbooba Mufti and the BJP Central leadership. Sources said even as the aspirants for Ministerial berths in the new dispensation are groping in dark due to silence maintained from the two sides, the leadership of both the parties is in touch with each other on the issue of distribution of portfolios in the new arrangement. Channels of communication are on at the highest level albeit the matters are being discussed in a discreet manner, sources said. Though Mehbooba Mufti has given indications there will be changes in the 'composition' of the Cabinet, this was only with respect to number of Ministers that were with each party when Government led by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was formed, sources said. However, she may also effect some changes with regard to departments and even the portfolios held by the leaders of the party, sources said, adding that she is at the same time not letting her cards known to any one within the party as of now and any changes or status quo is all a guessing game in the political circles as also with the alliance partners. As for the BJP, sources said the matter of distribution of portfolios is under consideration of the leadership in a very inconspicuous and unnoticeable manner. Though Avinash Rai Khanna came to Jammu today and apparently remained busy with some party activities besides addressing a meeting of functionaries in the party office, his basic purpose of the visit was to take feedback and inputs from some senior leaders of the party, an assessment that would enable the Central leadership to decide finally on who would be given which Ministry within the party. Sources in the party indicated that reports are not in favour of continuation of a couple of ex-Ministers who in the final shortlisted structure may either be dropped or given the departments other than what they held in the last year. Feedback is being sought from the leaders who have nothing to do with the Cabinet or in the Council of Ministers, sources said, adding however their opinion and inputs matter as experienced local leaders. |
