PDD's shocker for Reasi villagers: Clear your dues | 30-yrs on, department has no record of money collected from consumers | | A B Sharma
Early Times Report
Reasi, Mar 30: After remaining in slumber for more than 30-years, the Power Development Department, Reasi seems to have woken up , apparently after the distress call made by the ministry to release the pending electric bills of the people of Reasi, who never have ever got meters installed at their homes. Astonishing it may sound that since the past more than thirty years the employees of the PDD Reasi have been taking money illegally from the people of Reasi on the pretext of submitting their bills. The practice of the corrupt officials at the helm of the affairs since past thirty years had made the people to shell the illegal money to the linemen of the Reasi which was pocketed by the officials. Now, apparently after having received the strict stricture to get the money released from the 'defaulters', the PDD officials have started thronging the homes of the people while asking them to submit their electricity dues which they have run into lacs even. The irony behind the fact none of the household in Reasi villages have got the meters installed. Under such circumstances, the issue that rises up for a logical questioning to the department is that when the department itself is at the fault for not installing meters, then on what pretext, the department officials are running door to door in all village homes to collect the money. "I have been paying a regular amount to the lineman who pays monthly visit to my house to collect the electricity bill. He never gave any receipt of the same or got my initials taken on any department's document claiming that I have paid the bill. Besides, when there is no meter in my house, how the department claims to have raised a sum of Rs 90,000 as impending electricity bill to my name ," said one of the victimized resident of Pouni. The Divisional Engineer (executive engineer), department of electricity Thakur Dass when approached by this reporter failed to give any logical answer. "The department has come up with the pending bills of the people of the village which they have to pay. Since they were not paying their dues for past 30 years, the stern action has been initiated against the defaulters," said Thakur Dass. Thakur Dass however failed to give any appropriate answer when asked about the monthly charges taken by the department's linemen since past thirty years against the payment of the electricity bills. It is pertinent to mention that since the department has found its working at the fault, it has decided to pressurize the people to release money. The villagers unitedly have decided to hit roads and block highway if any misadventure is done by the department. |
