Former Pak diplomat blames Pak agencies for supporting terror | | | Truth is out of the bag. In fact bitter truth is out of the bag as far as Pakistan's involvement in aiding militants is concerned. The real truth behind Pakistan's involvement in encouraging terrorists and for providing shelter to them has been revealed by a former diplomat, Hussain Haqqani when he referred to a deadly terror attack in Lahore that killed more than 70 people. During the last over 30 years Pakistan, its Army, the ISI and other official and non-official agencies have nurtured terrorists of various hues for the purpose of liberating Jammu and Kashmir and earlier part of Punjab. When the Pak game fizzled out in Punjab because of heavy measures against terrorists and against those supporting terrorists, Pakistan agencies started targeting Jammu and Kashmir. In fact during the last more than 26 years between 40 and 42 arms training camps have been established where able bodied youth receive training in handling of sophisticated weapons and high grade explosives. Pakistan's involvement with jihadi groups at the highest level for "liberating" Jammu and Kashmir has backfired, former diplomat Husain Haqqani has said after a deadly terror in Lahore that killed more than 70 people. The Pakistani establishment remained reluctant to declare an all-out war against terrorist groups despite having failed in their plans, Haqqani, the country's former envoy to the US, has said Pakistan's involvement with jihadi groups initially was primarily as a strategic investment, which was supposed to bring them benefits through influence in Afghanistan and the liberation of Jammu and Kashmir from India. That has backfired is the claim of Haqqani. Now, even though it has backfired, Pakistan has been very selective in going after these jihadi groups. That is the reason why the jihadis pick specific targets like Shias, Ahmadis or Christians, to improve their recruitment, playing on various kinds of polarisation, and taking advantage of that to advance in society further. The real problem lies in that attitude of the government of trying to protect the parties in Punjab, while going after the terrorists in other parts of the country, but not in the Punjab. That's what has come back to bite them. The Pakistani military and civilian leadership have remained distracted by delusions of fighting India and its influence in Afghanistan and allowing certain jihadi groups to pursue those objectives, not realising that they can end up having offshoots, just like the Pakistani Taliban emerged out of the Afghan Taliban. The Pakistani component of the Afghan Taliban ended up becoming a separate group. And now Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has broken away from the Pakistani Taliban. Pakistan has to make a decision to go after all terrorist groups, as well as the mindset that breeds these terrorists. And Pakistan has not been able to make that decision. In the face of series of terrorist strikes in Pakistan, whether that be in crowded places, in mosques, in churches or against some sects the establishment in Pakistan has refused to take any action against India-centric terrorist groups. Siunce Pakistan has not taken the measures that are necessary to isolate all terrorists, there are groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed that attack India. They are spared. Once they are spared, it's very possible that some of their members will actually join splinter groups which will attack Pakistan. This is what has been happening in Pakistan and even after shedding a tear or so Pakistan Army, the ISI and other agencies bring groups of militants on the launch pads across LOC and the IB in Jammu and Kashmir from where they are pushed into the Indian territory for triggering violence. This way a case of as you sow so shall you reap applies to Pakistan. No wonder if Lahore type terrorists strikes are repeated on the soil of Pakistan. Let Islamabad shake hands with New Delhi so that the two neighbouring countries could launch anti-insurgency operations on a large scale. |
