Srinagar, May 13: Duped by fraud tour operating company Hajeej India ltd, hundreds of Hajj aspirants who were cheated by its owners in 2012 batch appealed the government to ensure their money deposited for performing holy pilgrimage is returned and the main accused punished sternly.
Days after police claimed to have arrested Alhajeej fraud case main accused Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar from New Delhi, the 2012 duped Hajj aspirants demanded stringent punishment to the guilty who according to them grabbed their hard earned money saved to accomplish their dream of performing Hajj.
The aggrieved aspirants alleged that over 400 persons had deposited their money with the fraudulent company which is yet to be returned.
"Each person had paid rupees 1.50 to 2.50 lakh in 2012 to perform holy pilgrimage, but all of them were cheated," Gulam Rasool a duped aspirant told 'Early Times'.
"We had deposited more than four crore rupees with the tour operator to facilitate our pilgrimage to Makkah and Madina, but the accused duped us and grabbed our hard earned money," he said, adding guilty should be dealt with iron hands and the government must ensure that our money is returned.
He claimed that the aspirants who were previously duped by the fraudulent tour operator were compensated after their property situated at Harwan on the city outskirts was put on public sale by orders of the court.
Pertinently, Hajeej duped more than 500 persons in 2011 who had deposited their passports and money with it for performing Hajj. After the scandal came to fore, Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar, the company's owner, had gone underground to evade arrest. The police, after issuing a 'hue and cry' notice for him across India and announcing a cash reward of Rs 30,000 for his whereabouts, arrested him from Ajmer in December 2011.
"The property belonging to trio were sold through auction and the amount was equally distributed among 2011 Hajj aspirants who too were duped by them, but our money has not been retuned till date," he added.
He said some of the Hajj aspirants from their batch died without performing hajj while some were poor who forgot about their dream after being duped.
The aggravated aspirants said that company has exploited the sentiments of people who somehow again reposed their trust in them despite cheating hundreds earlier.
"The trio entered into a written agreement before sessions Judge and assured us that what happened to previous aspirants will not be repeated but we too were cheated and no action was taken against the father son trio so far,'' Gulam Mohammad Bhatt another aspirant told 'Early Times'.
