'Fundamental rights denied to Jammu, not to Kashmir' Lodhi misleads UN 5/13/2016 11:56:14 PM Early Times Report jammu, May 13: Pakistan on Thursday misled the United Nations by telling the international body that the Government of India denied fundamental rights to Kashmiri Muslims. "It is the 'duty' of the global community to ensure UN resolutions on the issue are fulfilled. Denial of fundamental human rights to Kashmiris is an injustice and the failure to address prolonged outstanding disputes would be seen as 'double standards' practiced by the world body," said Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Maleeha Lodhi at a General Assembly debate on peace and security. The United Nations was created with the 'very purpose to prevent and stop these injustices - injustices such as the denial of fundamental human rights to the people of Palestine and Kashmir. "Isn't it our collective and solemn duty to keep the promises made to them through numerous resolutions of this body? How can this body command the respect it deserves if its own edicts are flouted," she further said. The assertion of Lodhi that Kashmiri Muslims had been denied fundamental rights was as ridiculous as it was misleading. The fact of the matter is that it is the people of Jammu province, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs included, who are being considered worse than the brutes in Jammu and Kashmir and Kashmiri Muslims have been ruling the roost since October 1947. They are the most prosperous people in the entire country and they have been holding the highest executive office in the state since its accession to India. They have not only manipulated and captured all the institutions in the state but have also been enjoying all rights all over India with the Indian political class always at their back and call and even going to the extent of taunting and abusing the Dogras of Jammu by hailing the regressive, intolerant and exclusivist Kashmiriyat in Jammu itself. Only recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Kashmiriyat at Katra to taunt the people of Jammu province, Ladakh region and internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus - all victims of fanaticism and Kashmiriyat. . It was in October 1947 that Jawaharlal Nehru and National Conference President Sheikh Abdullah hatched conspiracy against the people of Jammu province to get political power transferred from Jammu to Kashmir and help Kashmiri Muslims through Sheikh Abdullah to enslave and exploit the people of Jammu province. Backed to the hilt by the anti-Jammu and anti-Dogra Congress and Nehru, Sheikh Abdullah handed down a regime that was fundamentally Kashmir-centric and one-community-centric. He manipulated more than 50 per cent representation in the assembly for Kashmir, sealed the fate of Jammu and Ladakh and unleashed a process that excluded the people of Jammu province from the legislature, from the government and from all the government establishments, including financial institutions. In fact, he, in collaboration with Nehru and the Congress, introduced theocracy in the state and the result was that J&K became an autonomous religious state for all practical purposes and people of Jammu province became unreal and ineffective. The truth, in short, is that while Kashmir is the most powerful region in the country, Jammu province is the most neglected part of the nation and its people the most neglected lot in the country. But our problem is that our insensitive, biased and minority-appeaser political class of which the BJP and the RSS are also the part has not been countering the Pakistani misinformation campaign launched at the international forums. Nor is there the possibility of the Indian political class calling the bluff of Pakistan and Kashmiri Muslim leadership. It's no wonder then that the people of Jammu region have been seething with anger and bating for separation from Kashmir. And the days are not far off when they will achieve their objective and become dignified citizens of the country.
