Locals flay shortage of water during holy month of Ramdan

Poonch Jun 8: Residents of various localities in Poonch town and across the district are facing acute shortage of drinking water even during the holy month of Ramadan. The residents said they had been facing shortage of water for quite a long time, but the supply had been negligible in the recent past.
"We have been left high and dry in this holy month without water supply," said a local resident adding despite that the state government directions about due arrangements for the water and power supply besides security across the state during holy month. "People irrespective to religion could be seen fetching water from the nearby traditional water sources but the PHE authorities are in slumber," he said.
People also alleged Executive Engineer and Assistance Executive Engineer Poonch seems to be least bothered for the smooth water supply in the their jurisdiction which is evident from the approach adopted by the department towards its responsibilities.
Locals said that they had been requesting repeatedly to the authorities to take cognizance of their woes, but the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department seemed to be non serious to solve the issue..
People from Fatehpur locality of Mandi of Poonch district alleged that PHE department has failed to maintain water lift scheme, where government has invested about Rs 03 Crore and the scheme has just reduced to a 'white elephant' only. Some even demanded a probe why the then experts have planed this scheme if this was feasible and crores of funds would have utilized for public development instead of turning burden on government exchequer.
Meantime the residents of main Poonch town also complained about the acute shortage of water supply in the city and appealed to state government for taking necessary action in this regard and warned people will come to streets if govt fails to take action in this regard.
