JKPCC's GM visits Psychiatric hospital, directs against use of B grade bricks | ET Impact | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 8: General Manager (GM) of J&K Projects Constriction Corporation (JKPCC) paid a surprise visit to Psychiatric hospital in Srinagar after Early Times carried a story against the JKPCC whose officials were using B -grade bricks in the under construction building within the hospital premises. Details available with Early Times reveal that General Manager (GM) JKPCC Waqar Shunthoo along with DGM and other senior officials of the corporation paid a surprise visit to the Psychiatric hospital in Srnagar's old city on Wednesday as Early Times had filed a news report about use of B-grade bricks in the hospital. GM ordered that use of said bricks should be stopped and also directed his officials to issue fresh tenders for sanitary , electric , truss work , plaster work etc. Pertinent to mention that Kashmir valley's lone Psychiatric hospital also known as Mental hospital has been in 6 shambles as the construction work undertaken in 2013 is yet to be completed by the J&K Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC). The JKPCC was supposed to complete the construction work in December 2015 , but due to negligence of the officials of JKPCC especially its Manager and JE , only 40 % of construction work has been completed. JKPCC authorities are using B-grade bricks during the construction and Early Times is in possession of some photos of these bricks as well. Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar made several correspondences with the MD of JKPCC for early competition of work , but the JKPCC hardly gave any importance to Principal's letters. Sources say that B-class bricks are being used in the construction. JKPCC was earlier exposed as they had allotted 17 crore bridge work to a blue eyed contractor in Ganderbal. In-spite of orders issued by the Government asking J&K Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) to undertake works by floating proper tenders , the JKPCC according to reliable sources allotted a 17 crore bridge work to a blue eyed contractor who according to sources to very close the JKPCC's Managing Director. Early Times had exposed a nexus between JKPCC and some contractors. The corporation allotted a contract amounting to Rs 17 Crores for the construction of a bridge at Watal Bagh , Ganderbal to a blue-eyed contractor Bashir Ahmad Malik who is considered to be very close to JKPCC's top officials . Sources say that contractor was allotted the work in November last year by floating all the norms . It may be recalled that in blatant violation of norms, the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) executed a multi-crore project without floating tenders in Doda district during 2007. The details were sought under RTI around 5 years back. Information seeker had sought details about the works including tendering process executed on Ganpat Bridge in Doda. |
