Concerns of lawmakers: Praising Pak, communalizing J&K | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 8: In Legislative Assembly, some of the lawmakers continue either praising Pakistan or seeking releasing of "anti-nationals" by giving a communal color. But these legislators forget to raise the developmental issues, for which people have elected them. The Legislative Assembly Wednesday witnessed ruckus, when Independent MLA Er Rashid, who is known for anti-national statements raised an issue about a Jammu Muslim, who has been booked under PSA. The MLA Langate sought his release saying accused the government of "harassing" the Muslims and demanded release of the Muslim leader of the Jammu region, who has reportedly been booked under the PSA. "I want answer why Syed Shabir Ahmad Shah, president Muslim Development Forum has been booked under the PSA," Rashid shouted. "Has Shah been convicted because he participated in late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's Chahrum? You should have booked communal elements of Samba and those who killed Ishtiyaq and Zahid." On this Speaker Kavinder Gupta said, "PSA is slapped on anti-national elements." MLA Langate accused the PDP of becoming "brokers" and having left "Muslims of Jammu at the mercy of right wing Hindus". But Rashid was cornered some of the legislators, who said even though the legislator has right to raise any issue but should not polarize the House and divide the state on the basis on communal lines. Shah has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and the dossier reads, "He has created terror among locals and disturbs the tempo of life of the community resulting which general public is feeling insecure (sic). He has created terror among peace loving people of the area". He has been arrested thereof." By trying to polarize the House, the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly were disturbed in the Question Hour. When the Speaker accused Rashid for "deliberately" disturbing the House, "I warn you not to disturb the House and allow the Question Hour to proceed," Gupta said. Rashid in return used abusive language and said, "Baad Mein Jaaye Aap Ka Question Hour (Go to hell your question hour). Tell me why PSA has been slapped on 129 youth of the Palhalan why not in Samba," Rashid replied. The NC legislators also supported Er Rashid and were seeking reply from the government why the Muslim leader was booked under PSA. After which Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Law and Justice, minister Abdul Haq Khan said the legislators should respect the sanctity of the House and not to resort "un-parliamentary" language and allow the Legislative Assembly to proceed. Rasheed responded, "Bakwaas Band Karo. Kis Izzat Ki Baat Kartay Ho?" Following this, Rasheed was marshalled out of the house. By raising these issues, such legislators have failed to raise the issues, which concern the people for which people had voted for. While on the other hand, the PDP legislators are continuing to shower praise on Pakistan. PDP MLA Karnah Raja Manzoor had all praise on Pakistan and said that his area is still dependent on Pakistan for irrigating agriculture land. "I am seeking water from Pakistan to irrigate agriculture land of people in my constituency," Manzoor said in the Legislative Assembly while speaking during the Discussion and Voting of the demands for Grants for Agriculture Production, Horticulture and Cooperative departments. On Tuesday, Javaid Murchil, Member of Legislative Council had in Upper House said that the Dahni Sadpora village in Karnah tehsil is still dependent on Pakistan for irrigating its agriculture land. "Every year, poor farmers from the village collect money in a handkerchief and throw it to the other side so that water for irrigation is supplied to them," the PDP legislator had said. |
