336 dwelling units to come up in Jammu under JNURM
State Govt yet to receive funds for preparation of Smart City proposals

srinagar, Jun 8: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development headed by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today in a written reply to A.Q No. 615 of Rajesh Gupta stated that 336 dwelling units will come up in Jammu Municipal Corporation under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), a massive city-modernization scheme launched by the Government of India under Ministry of Urban Development.
In reply to a question of MLA Rajesh Gupta about the action plan to remove the slums from the capital city of Jammu with the time frame, stated under JnNURM, JMC has taken up construction of 336 dwelling units at Sunjwan for slum dwellers and out of which 64 dwelling units are completed while remaining 272 dwelling units have been completed 90% beside 36 dwelling units at Khusht Ashram, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu have been completed. In addition, ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA), GOI has launched a new scheme "Housing for All", under which rehabilitation of Slum Dwellers is also being planned by the department and the action plan for the selected cities/towns including Jammu city is presently being formulated.
The Government also stated that holding of Civic Bodies Elections and empowerment of basic democratic institution is under active consideration of the Government.
In another question on amount earmarked for developing Jammu and Srinagar cities as Smart Cities indicating the time frame, the government reply stated that GoI has considered both the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu for the Participation in "All India Smart City Challenge Process" and accordingly the department has requested the Ministry of Urban Development, GoI to release Rs. 2 Crore each for preparation of Smart City proposal for Srinagar and Jammu.
In case both the cities will be selected for Smart Cities, an amount of Rs. 500 Crore would be made available as central assistance for implementation of Smart City proposal for every city and the implementation time frame will be 5 years.
